Whether you know it or not, the GS4 has started a trend.
After introducing the GS4, Samsung went on to introduce the GS4 Mini, GS4 Zoom, and the GS4 Active, the first device for Samsung that comes with an LCD screen and has some waterproof potential. This brings the total of GS4 devices to four. As if smartphone shopping weren’t complicated enough.
For Samsung, however, the GS4 has started a trend: it seems as if Samsung, using its GS4 collection as a stepping stone, has decided to go all the way with its Galaxy Note 3 presentation this September at IFA. According to the latest news, Samsung will introduce four Galaxy Note 3 variants. I am not referring here to the same Galaxy Note 3 on four different carriers, but rather, four different models of the Galaxy Note 3 – each with some variance in features and pricing.
What are the four? Continue reading.
Rugged AMOLED display. Yes, to some extent, the GS4 Active’s somewhat rugged nature has inspired the first of the four Galaxy Note 3 variants. The first Galaxy Note 3 variant will have “an unbreakable AMOLED display” and “higher quality materials.” While I have said in recent days that Samsung may go with metal in the Galaxy Note 3 and future Galaxy S models, Samsung could also use carbon fiber to make future smartphones.
The company recently purchased 50% stock in a company known as SGL Group. SGL is known for its carbon fiber products. Carbon fiber, to the amazement of some, is stronger than aluminum metal (and thus, more durable).
Regular AMOLED display. Some consumers will pay for durability, and the unbreakable AMOLED display will be the one phone they aim to buy. For other consumers, the regular AMOLED display is good enough. This one will also have a 13MP camera.
Two LCD display models. The third and fourth models will both have liquid crystal displays, a trend Samsung started with its GS4 Active. The difference between these two models is that the third will have a 13-megapixel camera (as will the first and second), but the fourth will have an 8MP camera. Some consumers may opt for the 8MP, as they have no need of the 13MP or the latest specs. LCD is also better on the eyes in sunlight.
One last thing to note: the last three models will all come with plastic shells. Yes, I know I said the GS4 has started a trend, but the GS4 Active has not been that much of a motivator. Samsung will stick with its plastic cases on the last three models, while offering consumers a bit more choice with everything else. Now, if we can only get them to provide more 32GB and 64GB devices at launch.
