Samsung Has Officially Launched New Galaxy Line, Meet The Galaxy Mega

It’s official Samsung has stepped forward and confirmed the coming of a sub-brand within the span of its Galaxy devices. Galaxy Mega is launching two phablets (mini-tablet sized phones) and expanding on the success of the Galaxy Note device line.Samsung has confirmed, to everyone’s excitement, that the Mega 6.3 and 5.8 will be available internationally, starting in May with Europe and Russia. They also added that availability will depend on the market and launches in subsequent countries will be gradual. Samsung did not mention the pricing of the Mega but analysts are expecting them to be slightly more affordable than the Note II due to its dual-core processor instead of quad-core.

Both Mega handsets will include an 8-megapixel camera on the rear with a 1.9-megapixel camera up front. The 6.3-inch Galaxy Mega is paired with a 1.7GHz dual-core processor and 8 or 16GB of on-board storage, while the smaller version will come with a 1.4GHz dual-core processor and 8GB of internal memory.
Both also support microSD cards up to 64GB and are equipped with 1.5GB of RAM. LTE connectivity will be included with the larger Galaxy Mega.

Samsung's TouchWiz UI will be backed by Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, making the Mega phones some of the earliest devices to be equipped with the latest version of the operating system.
Some features announced with the upcoming Galaxy S4 will also be on both devices, including an IR blaster to control your television or home entertainment system and S Translator. To take advantage of the large screens, Samsung's multi-window view will be installed, letting users use two apps simultaneously.

Samsung had this to say about the new addition to their phablet family:
The newest addition to the GALAXY family balances an optimal viewing experience on a 6.3-inch HD screen, yet is ultra-thin and portable enough to put into a pocket or hold in one hand. The GALAXY Mega offers a mix of popular smartphone and tablet features such as an effortless user experience, a split screen, multitasking between video and other apps and more.
CEO of Samsung’s Mobile department also added that the Mega is an effort to bring smartphone functionality to those who enjoy the perks of a bigger screen:
“We are aware of a great potential in the bigger screen for extensive viewing multimedia, web browsing, and more. We are excited to provide another choice to meet our consumers’ varying lifestyles, all while maintaining the high-quality features of the award-winning GALAXY series,”

Samsung has successfully dominated the smartphone industry by offering both low-budget and high-end phones and tablets. Augmenting its popular line with more phablet options is simply the next step for the Korean tech giant, especially since they have all but fueled the big-screen smartphone trend as the Mega line will sport 6.3 and 5.8 display choices.
